About Us

Since 1980, Odyssey has treated New Zealand adults and adolescents with serious substance abuse, gambling, and other associated problems.

Dr Fraser McDonald, then head of Carrington Hospital, established Odyssey,  Auckland’s first dedicated facility in a rented house on Rose Road in Grey Lynn in October 1981 - with a staff of just one.

From these humble beginnings, Odyssey has built an enviable reputation for excellence, professionalism, and getting results that has seen the organisation grow strongly to become New Zealand’s foremost drug, alcohol, and gambling addiction treatment provider.

Today Odyssey offers a diverse range of programmes and services operating from eight treatment centres in Auckland City, Manukau City, and Whangarei, and employs approximately 100 people.

Although Odyssey receives some Government funding, its services are largely reliant on sponsorship and donations.
