Our Training Programme

Odyssey Café aims to create a welcoming & comfortable café environment for the local community, while also providing workplace training and development for young people who would benefit from this opportunity.

Launched in November 2016, the Odyssey Café Training Programme provides individualised vocational coaching and support for 30 young people (16-24 years old) each year; aiming to enhance their job prospects and wellbeing.

Our goals

The Odyssey Café Training Programme seeks to remove barriers to employment for young people by helping them develop their potential and capacity to contribute fully in the community.

Trainees are supported to develop practical hospitality skills and work towards NZQA Unit Standards in areas such as customer service, food safety and coffee making.

Through the programme, we aim to help our young people develop a positive sense of self and a sense of purpose, as well as nurturing their problem solving skills and independence.

Trainees are also offered individual support from our partner organisation Employment Works! to apply for jobs and attend interviews.

If you know a young person who might be interested in signing up to our eight-week programme, please get in touch with nicolac@odyssey.org.nz.

We’ll keep you up-to-date with some of their inspiring stories and on our Facebook page.
