At the age of 18, Kylie* met David* and began an 18-year relationship that would produce five children but also see both partners descend into habitual drug use over a period of many years.
By the time in 2008 when Kylie finally realised something had to be done about her drug abuse, all of her children had been taken from her by CYFS and David was behind bars on drug-dealing charges. However, once she made the call and referred herself to Odyssey, her life began to slowly turn around.
Before entering Odyssey, she attended counselling sessions while waiting for a bed to become available. As Kylie made progress through the Odyssey residential programme, she was reunited with her three youngest children. Eventually, as she began to transition out of residential treatment back into the community, her partner David also entered treatment at Odyssey.
Kylie has now graduated the Odyssey programme. She has reconnected with her five children and is well on the way to regaining full custody of all her children. She is rebuilding her relationship with David, and wants to find full-time employment as a teacher.
