Success Stories

New Behaviours

Rachel * is only 17 years old but when she came to Odyssey she had been a heavy cannabis user for four years and an intravenous methamphetamine user for one year. Her parents were separated and she had left school at 14.

Rachel entered treatment at Odyssey in February this year but initially found it hard going. As she worked through the programme she learned new behaviours and began to enjoy more positive relationships with staff and her peers. She learned how to manage emotional distress without drugs and how to better express herself. As she progressed, she formed a firm commitment to building a future for herself without drugs and began to establish new relationships with her family.

It took eight months of intensive treatment to consolidate Rachel’s new positive behaviours before she was ready to graduate from the Odyssey Youth residential programme. She has now graduated the programme, living drug-free, attends our Youth Aftercare Service, and is having regular contact with her family.
