WHAT TO EXPECT
How can I get into Odyssey House Auckland?
Many of our clients are referred by the courts, police, or other social services, but we also welcome people who recognise they need help and apply to us directly for treatment.
Simply visit our Assessment and Admission Centre at 110 Mount Eden Road, Auckland or phone us on 09 638 4957. Even if you’re not sure what kind of help you need, we can help point you in the right direction.
What about detoxification?
If a person applies to Odyssey House for treatment with a recent history of heavy alcohol consumption or abuse of opiates or benzodiazepines, a medical detoxication may be needed.
Our Admissions staff will contact a specialist medical detoxication provider and, if necessary, arrange for the person to get detoxification treatment prior to being admitted to Odyssey House. If no detoxification beds are available, we will help you to decide where the safest place is for you while you wait for a bed.
Note: no medical detoxification is needed for P addiction.
Can Odyssey admit me right away?
Yes we can – if we have space available and no detoxification is required. If there is no space available right away, you may have to go on a waiting list until we have space for you. A friendly team of professionals will first interview you to identify the most suitable service within Odyssey House.
The only time we will not interview you for admission is if you turn up under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This is because of safety issues for staff and difficulties getting accurate information from you while you’re intoxicated. In this situation we will make an appointment for you to come in for assessment the following day when you’re sober. Then we will make sure you get home safely.
